This collection features select images and also oral histories from Special Collections' nascent Fishtown Collection. Fishtown was an artist’s community on the North Fork of the Skagit River that existed from 1968 – 1988. Dwelling in fishermen’s shacks that were renovated into living quarters and studio space, Fishtown artists produced work that was highly influenced by Buddhist and Hindu aesthetics, the Northwest Mystic painters, and the Skagit itself. Their work was uniquely collaborative.
