Samish Bay Logging Company facility at Blanchard
Back caption: "Earls & Cleerys" Incorrect identification. Pictured is the Samish Bay Logging Company facility at Blanchard, about 1927. Begun in 1912 by James Norie, Josiah Howard, and Henry Auchu of the C. B. Howard and Company of Emporium, Pennsylvania, This company logged from north of Oyster Creek around and over Chuckanut Mountain to the area at the south end of Lake Samish. In the process of logging this steep mountain area they acquired the distinction of building more railroad inclines than any other Skagit County company.
