Grave marker of Ole Larson in overgrown cemetery
Back caption: "Buchanan Cemetery near Lake Whatcom, Wash." According to Whatcom Cemetery records, the Buchanan Cemetery is north of the fire hall at Agate Bay. Original cemetery was 40 acres set aside by Joseph Buchanan a homesteader, as a private family cemetery, but later was opened to any settler. Between 25-50 people were buried there; the last burial was Joseph Buchanan in 1917. By 1974 the cemetery was reduced to 100 feet by 100 feet. Sometimes referred to as Woodlawn Cemetery since Woodlawn was original name of Agate Bay region. (Not to be confused with Woodlawn Cemetery in Ferndale, WA)See also photo GB2239.
