John J. Marsh at the completion of a plank sidewalk in front of the Imperial City House which was located at 12th and Larrabee Streets in Fairhaven
The building also housed the post office. In this photo in the foreground, three men are working on the sidewalk and a man in uniform, John J. Marsh (according to Jeff Jewell) who became Fire Chief in 1909, stands next to them. A few other men are visible further along the sidwalk. The Imperial City House was opened in 1891 and formerly housed the Fairhaven Lodging House. Across 12th Street, a two story house and part of another are visible. Chuckanut Mountain is faintly visible in the left background. Typed notes by Neelie Nelson on reverse of photo.
