Stump on right of photo was intentionally saved until 1951. Dr. Mathes wanted it preserved as a reminder of the big trees that once covered the campus area.
Photo published in April, 1969 issue of "Resume." Tree is being moved from the south side to the north side of the Wilson Library to accommodate a library addition. "The tree was donated in 1941 as a four-foot seedling by Dr. Irving E. Miller, for whom Miller Hall was named. Dr. Miller was chairman of the Education and Psychology Department from 1917 to 1942.
