- A Canadian Pacific Railway ferry boat sails out of Ballard waterway, Seattle, WA, with railroad drawbridge seen in left background

- Description
- The diesel ferry boat is named "Motor Princess." It is moving out into Schilsoe Bay from the Hudson's Bay Co. dock on the Ballard waterway. This boat was designed by Capt. James Troup as the first vessel constructed for the C.P.R. as an auto ferry, was launched by Yarrows Ltd. At Esquimalt (Vancouver Island), making her first trip between Sidney and Bellingham in late May of 1923. From 1929 to 1950, the Motor Princess moved cars between Vancouver and Steveston on the lower arm of the Fraser Delta. In 1952, she was converted to freight use between Vancouver and Victoria. In 1956 she was rebuilt from the hull up to become a 40-car ferry on the Fulford Harbour-Swartz Bay crossing.

- A close-up of cannery tender the Warrior in Elliott Bay

- Description
- Smith Tower visible in the background. According to "The Great Pacific American Fisheries 1899-1965," it was the first diesel cannery tender built on the Pacific Coast. Built by Nelson & Kelez and launched in February 1914 in Seattle, the Warrior was 78' x 17' x 9.6' and 82 tons. Served many years in Alaska for P.A.F. and eventually used in 1963 as a trawler by Andy Ness. Shown flying an American flag, a P.A.F. banner, a Nelseco Diesel banner and a 48-star flag. Six men in hats and overcoats are on board.

- Copy of Seattle Times article from March 4, 1951, titled "Consolidated Black Cat Co., Ltd. - Jim Wardner's Weird Hoax That Stole a Nation's Headlines - By Donald H. Clark" Describes Wardner's ficticious venture in the 1890 called the Black Cat Ranch on Eliza Island where black cats would be raised for their pelts. The story was picked up by newspapers nationwide although it was all a hoax. Article includes a drawing of Wardner, with a bushy mustache, and a black cat.
