Hans Berthusen was born in Norway in 1860 and settled in Whatcom County in 1883, eventually owning 263 acres west of Lynden where he first ran a dairy, then cultivated the land. He married Leda Hawley in 1889. At his death in 1944 his property was bequeathed to the city of Lynden and became Berthusen Park. See also GB2766.

- One unidentified man stands by the truck in the back. Beyond the road is a lumber mill and a water tower. Lumber is stacked by the roadway. There is water in between the mill and the roadway.
