Description
-
According to "The Great Pacific American Fisheries (IV.A.1) this is a Floating Salmon Trap, circ 1956." This photograph shows the floating trap in place with a lead going back to the shoreline. On the right is a rigging scow where the crew lived. There was a wash area on the lower level with sleeping rooms above. Behind the rigging scow can be seen part of the cannery tender, a boat that serviced the scow and carried the fish from the trap to the canneries." Since salmon swim with the tide, once in the trap they will not swim against the currant to get out.
