This had belonged to Jimmie's mother, and had come from Russia - America - Alaska. Photo by author." On address label: Mrs. Edward Edson - 312 Mt. - Also inscribed, "They Were the Tenements, the Shells, of the Souls of a Company of Knights of Labor, Which Had received Sudden Orders, and Crossed the River of Death in a Body -- Fred Adams" and "Life's Fevers and Life's Passions All Are Past. Sleep Well, Sleep Sweetly, O My Friend, At Last, With Tired Head Pillowed on Her Pitying Breast, Sleep in the White Arms of the Angel Rest. -- Ella Higginson". This is likely in Bayview Cemetery, Bellingham, WA. An explosion in the Blue Canyon Mine on the south end of Lake Whatcom killed twenty three miners in 1895.

Peabody and Capt. Henry Roeder landed at Whatcom Falls on Dec. 15, 1852 and in 1853 built the first post office and mill house (at Whatcom Creek) in Whatcom.

- Since Elizabeth Roeder died in 1897, she never lived there but Henry, his daughter Lottie, and her husband Charles Roth did as well as the Gages, the inlaws of Lottie's son Victor. Then it passed out of the family and was a bed and breakfast for a number of years with various owners. It was sold and torn down in 1956 to make way for apartments.

- Elmheim, the Victorian mansion built by Henry Roeder at Elm and Monroe Streets. It was finished in 1898; Elizabeth Roeder died in 1897 and Henry in 1902. Roeder descendants lived in the mansion until it became a bed and breakfast inn. It was torn down in 1956 to make way for apartments. See also photos gb2677 and gb2897.
