1955-08 ----------xxxxx---------- Board of Trustees Minutes - August 1955 - Page 1 ----------xxxxx---------- 761 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES August 18, 1955 The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held on August 18, 1955, at noon at Edens Hall. Those present were Burton A. Kingsbury, Chainnan, Harry A. Einzer, Secretary, Don Eldridge, and President W. W. Haggard. The minutes of the meetings of July 7 and July 20, 1955, were approved. STATE BUILDING AUTHORITY ACT Mr. Kingsbury reported that he had a letter from Mr. Harlocker, Assistant Attorney General assigned to the University of Washington, indicating nothing definite regarding the constitutionality of the state Building Authority Act. President Haggard reported that he had discussed the Act with Mr. Doumit of the Attorney General's Office in Olympia with similar results. It was agreed that there is nothing to be done but await the decision of the Supreme Court. PLANS FOE MENS RESIDENCE HALL ANNEX Leonard Bindon, architect, was present and discussed the plan of the Annex to the Mens Residence Hall. Approval of the plan and the signing of the architect's contract were postponed. It was thought that more study should be given to the proposed plans and treat the opening of the fall quarter, as related to the Edens Hall Annex, would be meaningful for the step to be taken with the men's housing facilities. The Trustees, with Mr. Bindon and Presicient Haggard, inspected the site of the proposed Annex to the Mens Residence Hall. PURCHASE OF HIGH STREET PROPERTIES Earnest agreements relating to the purchases of the High Street properties in front of the Edens Hall Annex were received from Everett Wheeler, realtor, appraiser, and negotiator, totalling $ 28,400.00. The agreements were signed and President Haggard was instructed to request Governor Tanglie for the release of $ 28,450.00, the appropriation for the purchase of the foregoing properties. ELEVATOR FOR EDENS HALL ANNEX A request urging the installation of an elevator in the Edens Hall Annex, especially for freight purposes, was presented. It was decided to approve the installation contingent upon the availability of funds, and that the specifications and cost should be studied at the next meeting. ASSOCIATED STUDENTS ACCIDENT INSURANCE PROGRAM The associated Students presented an accident insurance program to include students and regularly employed personnel of the College. It was approved. Participation is voluntary and the percentage of subscribers nay be as low as 60% of the enrollment, or even lower. The Company is the United Pacific Insurance Company, and the agents are Ireland and Bellingar of Bellingham. The rate is $ 1.80 per individual per quarter. Other details of the contract are on file in the President's office. ENROLLMENT, FALL QUARTER, 1955 Up-to-date data regarding the enrollment for the fall quarter, 1955, were reviewed. S., New York University; M. Mus., University of California; instructor of music; annual salary, $ 4500.00. Virginia Colesmith, B. S., University of Minnesotr; M. A., University of Washington; canidate for the Ed. D. at University of Washington; assistant professor of education; annual salary, $ 4500.00 Arnold M. Lahti, B. A., Delta State Teachers College, Cleveland, Miss., M. A., University of Wisconsin; instructor of English; annual salary, $ 4200.00. C. Ralph Morse, B. A., M. A., Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia; instructor, circulation librarian; annual salary, $ 4500.00.
