1953-04 ----------xxxxx---------- Board of Trustees Minutes - April 1953 - Page 1 ----------xxxxx---------- MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES April 23, 1953 The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held on Thursday evening, April23, 1953, at 7:30 o' clock in Room [ineligible], Main Building. Those present were Burton A. Kingsbury, Chairman, Donald Eldridge, Secretary, Harry A. Binzer, and President W.W. Haggard. The minute of the previous meeting were read and approved. DISMISSAL OF ROY READ, FIREMAN Roy Read, whose services as a fireman were terminated on February 3, 1953, was present and asked for reinstatement. George Sperry, chief engineer, was called in to give his analysis of the causes of the foregoing termination of services. It was decided that Mr. Read should be informed that his services would bot be required in the future. PROGRESS REPORT ON LIGHTING IMPROVEMENT PROJECT IN MAIN BUILDING A report was made on the progress of the lighting improvement underway in the main building. It was agreed that satisfactory progress is being made; and, that the job would be completed earlier than anticipated. STATE AUDIT OF FINANCIAL RECORDS The President reprted that Mr. K.M. Kristopherson, a State Examiner from the Division of Departmental Audits, had begun the audit of the financial records of the College for the period of April 1, 1950, to March 31, 1952. PAINTING CONTRACTORS President Haggard reported that he had discussed pointing with certain painting contractors. Dave Chapman, who had been given work temporarily, states now that he will work for $2.75 an hour. APPROVAL FOR MEMBERSHIP IN AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN The Standards and Recognition Committee of the American Association of University Women, it was reported approved the College for the B.A. in Education on and the B.A. degrees at its recent meeting in St. Louis. EVALUATED OF COLLEGE BY AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF COLLEGES FOR TEACHER EDUCATION President Haggard outlined briefly the evacuation of the College to be made on May 6-7-8, 1953, by six visitors representing the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. [ineligible] of the San Fransisco State College is to serve as chairman of the visiting committee. REPAIRS ON PRESIDENT'S RESIDENCE Certain repairs on the roof of the front porch of the President's residence at 519 Oak Street were approved. It was estimated that the cost should not exceed $200.00. APPOINTMENT OF WILLIAM C. BUDD The appointment was approved of William C. Pudd, Ph. D., University of Minnesota, as Assistant in Research, and assistant professor of education at an annual salary of $4600.00, beginning September 25, 1953. RESIGNATION OF ANNA ULLIN The resignation as of March 31, 1053, was accepted regretfully of Anna Ullin, teacher of foreign langauges for thirty-one years (since 1922). ----------xxxxx---------- Board of Trustees Minutes - April 1953 - Page 2 ----------xxxxx---------- LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR MARGARET Aitken Leave of absence was approved for Margaret Aitken, assistant proesor of physical education, for the academic year 1953-1954. RESIGNATIONS ACCEPTED Resignation were accepted from Helen G. Price, assistant professor of psychology, and Wilbur Sheridan, assistant professor of music, to take effect at the end of the present academic year, June 11, 1953. NEW SALARY SCHEDULE APPROVED The following salary schedule to takr effect April 1, 1953, was approved: Instructor $3700.00-4200.00 Assistant Professor $4300.00-5100.00 Associate Professor $5200.00-6200.00 Professor $6300.00- ?
