A Song with Only One Word
A Song with Only One Word is a fiction collection consisting of short stories and flash fiction pieces. Working within the tradition of speculative feminist writing, it explores the ways girls and women are made absent both literally and symbolically in the contemporary world. Through elements of figurative language, lyricality, and magical realism, the stories challenge ideologies associated with misogyny, often by exaggerating them or reframing them in significant ways. Some stories discuss violence against women. Others focus on the sexism associated with domesticity and wifehood. Still others address perpetrators of violence against women, while resisting the 'monster' narrative often used to dissuade a closer examination of those who commit harm.
