Streetcar trestle spans barren field with buildings of Spokane in distance, and Spokane County Courthouse in center

The Spokane County Courthouse was designed by W.A. Ritchie who won the competition opened in 1893 for a courthouse/jail design. He had designed public buildings and courthouses in Seattle, Bellingham, Port Townsend, Vancouver and Olympia. Opened in 1895, it is located on the north bank of the Spokane River, controversial due to it not being located in the rural county.
