Enhancing Student Experience and Promoting Equity and Accessibility by Effectively Transferring Key Knowledge and Information…
Since its inception in Fall 2019, the Research Assembly at Western: Statistics (RAW Stats) Club has held events to promote the discipline of statistics and enrich the student experience at Western. This academic year alone, RAW Stats has held several events relating to (1) going over the graduate school application process and its preparation, (2) understanding the differences between Statistics, Data Science, and other similar majors in the Math and Computer Science Departments, (3) advertising student research opportunities in the Math Department, (4) hosting a tutorial presentation on R Markdown, (5) promoting the Multivariate Statistics course, and (6) organizing sessions to provide our students with opportunities to present their on-going research in probability and statistics. All these events have been made available in both an online and in-person format to maximize accessibility. As the officers and advisor of RAW Stats, we critically assess areas of success and improvement of our club activities this academic year through our own reflections and qualitative analysis based on the feedback from our student and faculty participants.
