Trevor, Junior, and Steve - Kenya
In Kochia, Kenya the main focus of my study abroad trip was to build relationships, little did I know the strongest relationships I built were with these three boys. Everyday while walking to the Secondary all girls school, they would walk with me and ask me how my day was and in return I asked them and gave them a ride or two on my shoulders. The most valuable thing I learned from them was that I did not have to seek to discover local culture. While they couldn't communicate in English, I discovered what it truly meant to be Kenyan through them: to love, to take initiative, and practice compassion.
