Harmful Content Statement
MABEL, the Multimedia Archives Based Electronic Library, is a central repository for the discovery, sharing and preservation of digital content that is created or managed by Western Washington University. The platform is intended to facilitate access by the Western Community and public to unique and valuable digital resources in support of research, teaching and learning activities. MABEL is also intended to support preservation of historical records and to increase transparency and accountability around different aspects of institutional, local and regional history. Please be aware that some digitized and historical material in MABEL contains information or reflects attitudes, biases, and norms that are offensive and harmful.
We acknowledge and advise users that they may encounter problematic or potentially harmful content (digitized objects or their descriptions) on the MABEL platform. This may include culturally sensitive, offensive or triggering material, such as racist, misogynist, ableist, and homophobic content; as well as Eurocentric materials that contribute to a white supremacist system. We recognize the harm that results from engaging with these materials. We aim to support content contributors in efforts to select and to present, contextualize, and describe content in MABEL in a manner that is respectful to all individuals and communities.
We welcome user input about potentially problematic or harmful content and description in MABEL. If you would like to provide feedback or request dialogue about the content of digital collections (or description of digital objects) on this platform, please contact us. The MABEL Team will refer these requests to the departments/divisions responsible for contributing content, with the expectation that content contributors will respond to those requests in timely fashion and document any resulting decisions.
