The steam pit shown behind the nose of the helicopter is at the approximate location of the lodge occupied by Harry Truman, who refused evacuation and died when the lodge was buried in the eruption. One of a collection of 35mm color slides taken by Steve Raymond, documenting the aftermath of the volcanic eruption of Mount St. Helens in Washington State. Raymond was given special access to the volcano and recovery zone in May 1981 to prepare a story for Sports Illustrated.
