Back caption: "Anniversary -- Saar Family - Sumas." Pictured is an elderly, white bearded man, surrounded by five women, eight men, and 17 children ranging in age from less than one year to 15 or 16. In 1889, Peter Saar, his wife J.M., children, Carrie, age 20, Maggie, age 15, and Fred, age 17, were living in Gera, near Sumas. Peter was born in Germany on June 23, 1830. His wife, J.M., was born in Oregon ca 1860, and his children were born in Washington On may 1, 1890, Peter Saar's daughters, Maggie and Carrie May, married William Sleasman and Frederick Berg respectively; on the same day, his son Fred married Emma Frances Brown and he (Peter) married L. (Lucy) A. Moorehouse. In 1910, Peter Saar, age 80, is a widower living with Maggie & William Sleasman and their eight children. Peter Saar died in 1911.
