The Opera House opened December 13, 1902. It had 2,200 seats; it cost $150,000 to build. Located at Dock (Cornwall) and Holly Streets, it was considered the best playhouse in the West. It was made of stone and pressed brick; 80 x 165 feet and 96 feet high. Later the Metropolitan Theatre was located there and the American Theater after that. Eventually Penney's Department store was in the space. Stamped on the article: "Photo by Galen A. Biery - Bellingham, Washington"
