A woman sits in a chair behind him viewing the show. Magic Lanterns were slide projector prototypes developed in the 17th century where fire or light illuminated images that were painted on glass slides and projected them onto flat surfaces. In this drawing the projector has an elaborate design on its side and top. A pile of glass slides sits beside the projector. There are a gas lamp, photo album, and two sea shells on the table with the projector and a framed "Home Sweet Home" on the wall. The floor appears to have a carpet painted on it.
