This digital collection will contain digitized images, manuscript materials and oral histories sampled from a number of different, larger collections at the Center for Pacific Northwest Studies. Researchers are encouraged also to browse or search other MABEL collection to find additional content relating to campus, local and regional women's history! This select digital collection was created in 2008-2010 in partnership with the Washington Women's History Consortium, using funding from the Washington State Legislature.

Waterfront Oral History Project
A selection of transcripts from oral history interviews conducted in 2006 with current and former employees of the Georgia-Pacific Corporation pulp mill in Bellingham, Washington, formerly owned and operated by Puget Sound Pulp & Timber Company. The Waterfront Oral History Project was a collaborative effort between Western Washington University’s History Department and the Center for Pacific Northwest Studies: oral histories were conducted by students in Professor Chris Friday’s History 400 class.

Images of mountains, glaciers, rivers, and lakes in the Cascade Range in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. Wernstedt (1878-1959) was a surveyor and cartographer for the U.S. Forest Service in the early and mid twentieth century. Originals are housed at the Center for Pacific Northwest Studies.

Since its beginnings in 1899 as a "Normal School," there has been a student newspaper at Western. From Normal Messenger to Northwest Viking to WWCollegian to Western Front (and other title variants in between), the student paper has chronicled the social, athletic, academic, and creative life of the institution throughout its trajectory from teacher-training college to comprehensive regional university. The database is made possible by the generous support of Don Hacherl and Cindy Hacherl (class of 1984) and Bert Halprin (class of 1971). The Western Washington University Student Newspaper database is an initiative of Western Washington University Libraries Special Collections.

Images and video depicting the members, teams, and activities of the Women's Athletic Association/Women's Recreation Association (WRA) at Western Washington State College (now Western Washington University) and its predecessors. The content spans the group's history, from its origins in the 1920s to its end in the early 1970s upon the formal establishment of Women's Athletics at Western. Included are images of branch clubs, such as the Blue Barnacles synchronized swim club and the Orchesis/Modern Dance club.
