- Back caption: "" Victor Charroin, born 1821, France. My (Mary Dreyfoos) great grandfather in Wisconsin - married Almira Johnson, sister of Mary Ann Johnson Larrabee. His father was in Napoleon's Grande Armee and was on the march to Moscow (?). Victor came to US in 1834, settled near Ferndale, Wash. (Mt. View) around 1856." Accompanying letter from Mary Bourque confirms information on photo and adds that Victor Charroin's wife's sister was her grandmother, Mrs. William Larrabee (Mary Ann). Victor and Almira's children were Victor, Theodosia (Mrs. Coleman Hoskins), Eva (Mrs. Edward Luce), Mrs. Berghoffer, Olive, Ida, Leon, Frank and possibly others."

- Flames are visible coming out of the roof. One hose is stretched through an open door. Several men stand around watching and one is stepping over the hose headed toward the door. No firemen are visible. A coating of snow is on the ground. The building appears to be on pilings so may be on a waterfront. It is long and low with wooden siding and has several doorways along the side. Black smoke can be seen at one doorway. A shed-like structure is at the end of the building.
