Description: Emile Reynaud (1844-1918) invented the praxinoscope that enabled the projection of images on a screen, creating the illusion of movement - an early form of animation. His optical theater, invented in 1889, was a big praxinoscope, a true precursor to film.

Description: The photo was taken from the top of L.D. Pike Block on Holly Street, downtown Bellingham, WA. The Henry Hotel (now YMCA) is on the left. Two divisions of the Great White Fleet of the US Navy visited Bellingham Bay in May of 1908. The main event was a parade of 500 sailors marching through town, down Elk (State) Street to Whatcom Creek. Rear Admiral Charles S. Sperry was at the head of the parade. See also GB1463
