Show moreWWU - AS Board of Directors Minutes 1943 September page 1 September 24, 1943 Board of Control Minutes Friday, September 24th, 1943 Meeting was called to order by the president Declan Barron. Dr. Haggard spoke concerning apple picking. Last year's expedition was discussed as well as the plans for this fall. The trip is scheduled for October 9th through the 17th. The student lounge was discussed. Dr.Bond moved that the lounge be open from 12 to 1 and 3 to 5, each day, at least for the next week. Also the Board is to advertise for a paid manager. Pay would start at 40 cents per hour. The Board decided to take turns working in the Student Lounge until a manager could be found. It was mentioned that a secretary for the Board should be advertised for in the bulletin. Choice of a chairman for Rec Hours would wait until the next meeting. Declan mentioned that all department funds were above board. Each department is to be given notice to make an estimate of budget for the coming year. Co-op Board needs a new chairman, which will be decided upon at the next meeting. It was moved that Interclub Council be allowed six dollars for the coming Club Rally, for refreshments. Motion was passed. Meeting was adjourned. Jeannette Bright vice president 1943 September page 2 September 30, 1943 Board of Control Minutes Wednesday, September 30, 1943 Meeting was called to order by the president, Declan Barron. Minutes were read and approved. The Collegian Budget was discussed, insufficient funds to cover it. The Division of Drama Budget was discussed and accepted, at least tentatively. Declan stated that Mr. Bushell would like to buy a cello if the Board of Control would approve. It was suggested that Valkyrie go to the special students to see if they would like to purchase A.S.B. cards. The following appointments will hold over until the next meeting when we will have the list of students: Co-op Board, Rec Hour Chairman, Home Front Weekend Chairman, War Committe, and Student Lounge Manager. Budgets for music, sports, drama and A.W.S. were discussed. Jean Borchardt was elected manager of the Student Lounge. The Valkyrie is to take over when the manager is not present, and is to receive $2 per week. Betty Herr was elected secretary of the Board. It was moved to allow Art Mickel to hold a Rec Hour in the near future. His plans, for a square dance, must be approved by the Rec Hour Chairman. Three students were chosen for Rec Hour Chairman. Declan will ask them in the following order : 1. Cale Campbell 2. Chuck Pomeroy 3. Dale Burklund Ivaloe Stillman is to look into the matter of buyin a nickleodeon for the Student Lounge and make a report at the next meeting. The Board of Control voted to allow the freshman to put on a minstrel show, so they may purchase something for the lounge. Ruthe Olds was elected Co-Op Board Chairman. Other members of the Board are Ruth Kosche, Dale Berklund, Betty Fisher and Virginia Sorgenfrei. Meeting was adjourned. 1943 October page 2 October 13th, 1943 Board of Control Minutes. The meeting was called to order by the president, Declan Barron. The minutes were read and approved. Doris Tedford was elected Chairman of the War committee; sub-chairman are : Servicemens Hospitality - Betty Fisher. Red - Cross - Ruth Kosche. Bandages - Shirley Olsen. Plans for the HOme Front Week-end were discussed and Walt Baker and Jeannette Bright were appointed co-chairman. The meeting was adjourned. Betty Herr, Secretary. October 20, 1943 Board of Control Minutes. The meeting was opened with a discussion on the budjet, which was approved for the fall quarter. A vote was taken and it was decided that the man could not remove trees from the Lakewood property. June Benjamin and Ivalose Stillman were appointed to help Jeannette on the election board. The meeting was adjourned. 1943 October Page 3 October 27, 1943 The meeting was called to order and the minutes were dispensed with. Eileen Gardiner has charge of the World Student Service Fund Drive. The object is to send books overseas to prisoners of war. The cost of the Homecoming dance was discussed. $100 was appropriated. There will be a Rec Hour on November 5. The meeting was adjourned. November 3rd, 1943 The meeting was called to order and the minutes were dispensed with. What we can do to get money for the World Student Service Fund was discussed. The following suggestions were made : An assembly explaining where the money goes. A booth in the main hall. Hold "open house" at the various houses. Have a Rec. Hour and charge admission. The votes from the student election were tabulated. 158 votes were cast. Those students elected are as follows : Four quarter women : Zosia Nowogrowski. Four quarter man : Jim Gilday. One quarter man : Larry Munizza. Queen Sigrid VI: Marie Eines. There being no further business the meeting was adjourned. The buying of a nickloadeon was discussed. It was moved and seconded that Mr. Earl save the ping-pong balls and that the student lounge manager take care of the balls that are to be given out as needed in the lounge. The collegian suggested that we have a directory in the main hall. The president is to see the collegian about this matter. The financial statement and the minutes of the Co-op Board were read. It was moved and seconded that the report be accepted. Mr. Earl is to be given a vote of thanks for operating the store so nicely. The meeting was adjourned. It was moved and seconded that we spend about ten dollars for games and a rushing appeal be made to get boods for the ships we are sponsoring. Motion was carried. ##

The freshman class would like to spend their money to buy a nickleodeon for the student lounge. The alder on the lakewood property was discussed again as there is an offer to buy it. It was moved and seconded that the president appoint a commitee to look into it. A new manager for the student lounge was discussed, it was decided that a notice would be put in the bulltein concerning the matter. The coop will be closed from 9 to 10 o'clock on Mon. and Wed. and from 1 to 2 o'clock everyday. The meeting was adjourned. 1944 January Page 2 January 19, 1944 The meeting was called to order. The minutes were read and approved. It was moved and seconded that the secretary write a vote of thanks to the freshman class. Carried. The Collegian suggested a visitors book for the school. A main directory will be put in the main hall and shall be taken care of by the ASB office. Some way of aiding the fourth war loan was discusseed. It was moved and seconded that the board allow the Valkyrie $5.00 for refreshments for the Rec Hour on Saturday. Carried. The meeting was adjourned. He is not able to find as much wood as he wants in certain places. It was suggested that we put the land above the road up for sale. A motion was made and carried. Harold Moe and Done Eldridge were nominated to fill the vacancy left by Jim Gilday. Mr. Eldirdge was elected. The minutes were read and approved. It was moved and seconded that the baord support the all-school dance to be sponsored by Edens Hall. Carried. It was moved and seconded that we allow the Campus Day Committee to spend up to $100. Carried. The student lounge will be open on Saturday nights from nine to twelve o' clock. The preoperty above the road out at the Lakewook Tract has been sold. It was moved and seconded that the ping pong table should be brought over from the gym, the matter will be discussed with Mrs. Christianson first. It was moved and seconded that we accept the applications of Joyce Waterbury for Collegian Editor for the summer quarter. An application from Geraldine Ludens for Klipsum Editor was read. It was moved and seconded that the board accept the application. Finding someone to take the responsibility of chaperoning the Lounge will be taken care of next year because there are only two week-ends left of this year. Betty Brunswig, W.R.A. Representative, presented the problem to the board of renting the cabin on Sinclair Island. After a discussion it was moved and seconded that we charge $10.00 a week to a group and $3.00 a week-end for a group. A minimum of a doller or $0.25 per person a night for overnight. The motion was carried. An application for Editor of the Navigator for the summer quarter from Patsy Jacobsen was read. It was moved, seconded and carried that we accept her applicaion. It was moved and seconded that the student lounge manager's salary be raised from fourty cents an hour to fifty cents an hour. The motion was carried. A suggestion was made that a survey be taken to determine the number of students who use the lounge at certain hours. It was moved, seconded and carried that the president be allowed to appoint a temporary manager. It was moved and seconded that Betty Herr be appointed Secretary of the Board for this quarter. Carried. The President reported about the budgets. A few of the clubs are not sure how much their expenses will be. Alice Marie reported that it will be impossible to buy bicycles as there are none to be had. Bus card will be issued from the business office next Monday. The letter concerning the repair of the nickleodeon was read, a discussion was held and it was moved, seconded and carried that we should send the amplifier to Shyvers to be repaired. It was moved and seconded that we keep the lounge open for specified hours and that Charlotte Samples and Pitt White be appointed as lounge managers; also that we appoint a lounge manager for Saturday nights. Carried. The budgets were read and a discussion was held. It was moved and seconded that we ask Mr. Lappenbusch to submit a budget for the next two quarters. Motion carried. W.R.A. Viqueen Lodge taxes and budget are to be investigated. It was moved, seconded and carried that we appoint one man and one woman for Homecoming Co-chairman and have equal and divided rights. It was moved and seconded that Dale Burklund with Herb Witt as an alternative be asked to act as chairman of the Home Front Weekend Program. Motion carried. It was moved, seconded and carried that the student lounge managers report needs to Doris and she has power to take care of anything that might come up. A motion was made, seconded and carried that the minutes be ratified. A discussion was held concerning the Home-Front Weekend. The Viqueen Lodge belongs to the Student Body. It was moved and seconded that we consider this matter at a later day, and that W.R.A. have a special meeting to talk it over. Carried. A discussion concerning budget was held. It was moved and seconded that we accept the budgets as they stand. Motion carried. It was moved, seconded and carried that we accept the budget for men's sports and that we take up the matter of awards at a later date. An application from Peggy Custer for the position of Business manager of the Klipsun was read. It was moved and seconded that she be appointed to the position of Business Manager for 1944-1945. The motion was carried. Glennis Sundberg was appointed chairman of the Election. It was moved, seconded and carried that Mary Louise Burke and Mildred Spromberg were appointed to help with the election. W.R.A. cabin: It was moved and seconded that the president be impowered to tall W.R.A that the will be given money for improvements after they have used their own money and at the approval of the board. Motion carried. It was moved and seconded that we vote by ballot at the next election. Motion carried. It was moved and seconded that Beverly Morgan be asked to act as a member of the Coop Board. Motion carried. It was moved and seconded that Mr. Hoppe be allowed to spend as much money as is necessary for punch and cookies for refreshments for the play. Motion carried. It was moved and seconded that we provide the yell leaders with sweaters and emblems and allow them to spend 6 or 7 dollars each. Motion carried. It was moved and seconded that we adjourn. The minutes were read and a motion was made that they be ratified. Motion carried. It was moved and seconded that Dr. Bond and Mr. Carver use their own discretion at the meeting concerning the Mt. Baker cabin. Motion carried. The Coop Board report was read and approved. Mr. Carver and Miss Anderson are going to see Dr. Haggard about the storage space for the Coop. It was moved and seconded that Vanadis Bragi be allowed to sell cokes in the Student Lounge on Sat. nights. Carried. It was moved, seconded and carried that Valkyrie be allowed to sell hot dogs at the Home Front game. It was moved, seconded and carried that we adjourned. Meeting adjourned. 194411 Page 3 November 15, 1944 The meeting was called to order. The minutes were read and corrected. Dr. Bond reported about the Mt. Baker Cabin. The board decided to allow Dr. Bond and Mr. Carver to use their own discretion as to the problem of repairing the cabin temporarily. It was moved and seconded that the pile driver put in three piles. Motion carried. A discussion about the problems of the Student Lounge was held. Glennis sundberg is going to see what kind of chairs mey be used in the lounge temporarily. A petition was presented to the board concerning the Klipsum. We, the undersigned students of W.W.C., hereby submit this petition requesting the enlarhement of the Kilpsum for the year 1944-45. We feel that the additional funds necessary could be adequately provided through solicitation of local advertisement. If this would not be satisfactory, we would be willing to promote money-raising activities for this purpose. It was moved and seconded that the petition be layed on the table until next week when the Business Manager of the Klipsum should be here to give us additional information about the budget, etc. Carried. It was moved and seconded that the board back the Blue Triangle in its W.S.S.F. drive. Carried. The Klipsum picture of the board will be taken Mon. morning at 12:30. Meeting adjourned. 194411 Page 4 November 21, 1944 The meeting was called to order by our president. The minutes were dispensed with. Peggy Custer gave a report on the cost of a larger Klipsum. It was moved and seconded that Board of Control should underwrite a guarantee of $1300. for the Klipsum (1944-1945). Carried. The Klipsum will be standard size again this year. It was moved, seconded and carried that the board donate $10.00. as their contribution to the W.S.S.F drive. Meeting adjourned. Betty Herr, secretary 194411 Page 5 November 29, 1944 The meeting was called to order. The minutes were read and approved. A discussion about the ping pong table in the girls' basket room of the gym was held. During the discussion it was brought up that we should have a record of who owns what property, etc. It was moved and seconded that we hire whatever secretaria; help is needed to take inventory on what the Student Body owns, etc. Alice Marie is going to see Mrs. Christianson about bringing the ping pong table over to the Student Lounge. Miss Anderson reported that bikes might be released again soon. Dr. Kangley brought up the discussion concerning the 6th War Loan Drive. It was moved, seconded and carried that Edens Hall be allowed to use records from the Student Lounge for their Service Men's Party and that they be returned immediately. If any are broken they will pay us accordingly. It was moved and seconded that we allow the Jr-Sr Class to sponsor a Rec Hour after the game next Saturday night. Carried. The studetn lounge will be open Saturday night of a closed week-end this quarter. Meeting adjourned. Betty Herr, secretary ##

The revisions of the Rules of Procedure for the Inter-Club Council Nominating Convention were read and discussed. It was moved and seconded that we accept the revision of the rules. Motion was carried. It was moved and seconded that Mr. Carver be impowered to tell Mr. Dack that we will sell our Lakewood property for $750. The motion was carried. It was moved and seconded that we O.K. the Winter Talent Show. Carried. Admission will be 75 cents and the show will be given one night only. Meeting adjourned. A discussion was held concerning the Lounge. Pitt White and Charlotte Samples will continue to work as the Lounge managers. It will be open at 1 and 2 every day under their managership. a discussion was held concerning glass tops for the tables in the lounge. It was moved and seconded that the board appropriate the money for the War Savings Stamps. Motion carried. It was moved and seconded that the board reappropriate $60.00 for the new A.W.S for the High School Leaders Conference. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned. Betty Herr, secretary. 194501 Page 2 January 10, 1945 The president called the meeting to order. A quorum was not present. A discussion was held about the table tops for the lounge tables and it was decided to have one glass table top made, for a trial. The meeting was adjourned. Correction: Doris was to see Mr. Aagaard about the table top. January 17, 1945 The meeting was called to order by the presient, Doris Tedford. Minutes of previous meetings were ratified. Doris reported that Mr. Aagaard will make the glass table top for us. There will be a Sophomore Rec Hour January 27. Nominations for the offices of four quarter man or woman and four quarter woman were held with the following results: 4 quarter man or woman Alfred Clement 4 quarter woman Virginia Pendleton Ann Easterbrooks was asked to represent the board at the Pre-Convention Assembly to state the qualifications of the nominees. The board gave Anne suggestions. meeting was adjourned. Virginia Sorgenfrei, acting secretary The president asked that the board members please be more prompt at the meetings. 194501 Page 3 January 24, 1945 The meeting was called to order by the president. The minutes were read and approved. Virginia Sorgenfrei was appointed acting secretary of the Board for the rest of the quarter. It was moved and seconded that the nominations be closed. Alfred Clement, Nell Kosola were nominated for candidates for the Board of Control election. [ineligible], Barbara te Hennepe and Glennis Sundberg are to be represent the board at the Nominating Convention. Dr. Kangley is going as advisor. It was moved and seconded that we allow the Norsemen to have a Rec Hour after the game.
