One of the smaller buildings at the water's edge has a sign saying "Oceanic Fisheries" and another says "Ice." Oceanic Fisheries was located on fill on the Bellingham waterfront near Bellingham Cold Storage. See also GB2496, GB2497, GB2498.

- A 1940s automobile parked in front. Galen Biery was born (1910) in and lived in this house before moving to 13th Street in the 1940's. This predates Fairhaven (formerly Valley) Parkway so there are several houses shown that are no longer extant. The brick building across Wilson from the craftsman house still exists as does the house beyond it on Wilson. The immediate foreground is a field which today is park of Creekside Condos.

- Copy of an article from the Bellingham Buyer, February 1966, titled "Bellingham...a Look Back - The Blue Canyon Coal Mine - Photos and Research Materials Courtesy of Galen Biery" describes the coal claim purchased originally by James Wardner in 1890 and sold shortly after to the Helena Syndicate out of Montana. It was managed and run by J.H. Bloedel and J. J. Donovan. It operated until may 1921. An explosion on April 8, 1895 took the lives of twenty three men. Article included photos of the mine at the south end of Lake Whatcom; the bunkers at Bryant Ave. and State Street in Bellingham where coal was stored and loaded onto ships; the steamer Ella that towed scows of coal on Lake Whatcom; Jim Wardner; Fairhaven with Wardner's "Castle" visible. Also a sectional view of the Blue canyon Mine.

- The Opera House opened December 13, 1902. It had 2,200 seats; it cost $150,000 to build. Located at Dock (Cornwall) and Holly Streets, it was considered the best playhouse in the West. It was made of stone and pressed brick; 80 x 165 feet and 96 feet high. Later the Metropolitan Theatre was located there and the American Theater after that. Eventually Penney's Department store was in the space. Stamped on the article: "Photo by Galen A. Biery - Bellingham, Washington"

In the immediate foreground is a garden and a small clapboard bungalow. Laundry hangs on a clothesline. A 1930's automobile is parked in front of the house which fronts on Wilson. Two other houses sit east of it. The house and open lot from photo gb3589 are immediately north and South Hill is beyond.
