- The Fairhaven Hotel was built in 1889. Before 1930, the Harris Avenue portico and tower were removed. After 1930, the entire fourth story, cupola, corniced top, decorated gables, and corner bay were removed. The building was sold to Whatcom County in 1955; demolished in 1956.

- Description
- The street in the foreground is cobblestone, probably Harris Avenue. A man is at the top of a ladder leaning against the arch and another man stands on the street watching him. The structure is made of blocks of sandstone. According to the "Fairhaven Hotel Journal 1889-1956," the man on the ladder is Dick Johnson atop the last arch of the Fairhaven Hotel on January 10, 1956. This was the arch over the south entrance to the hotel.

- An unidentified man in dark pants, jacket and hat standing at a hot patch setter machine which presumably patched holes where defects had been cut out of wood sheets. The machine has a long arm with a metal cylinder at the end that fits over a wooden block. "Globe" is written on the side of the arm. The man holds a knife-like implement in his hand. This is one of forty eight in the Bellingham Plywood Corporation photo series; there is also a Galen Biery scrapbook of photos of the Bellingham Plywood Corporation.

- Lafayett Rogan Jones, on the left, is standing in a lecture hall with a young woman and man. (Lafayett) Rogan Jones, an Aberdeen businessman, owned the building that housed Aberdeen's KXRO. He acquired the station when it went broke in 1928. Jones turned KXRO into a moneymaker. His search for other broadcasting opportunities led him to Bellingham and Kessler's defunct KVOS (Kessler's Voice of Seattle, now KGMI). Jones became a successful and influential radio owner, helping to define the way radio does business even today.

The machine has nine round wheel-like handles on its side and one on the front and five large vent pipes going out its top, two pipes go through the floor. A plaque on the front of the machine says "Yates - H268" Stacks of plywood sit on dollys to the right of the worker.
