- Stamped on reverse in ink: "Photography by Galen Biery - 1023 13th Street - Bellingham, Wash...Date 5/2/67." Part of a breakwater can be seen at the lower left. One of the smaller buildings at the water's edge has a sign saying "Oceanic Fisheries" and another says "Ice." Oceanic Fisheries was located on fill on the Bellingham waterfront near Bellingham Cold Storage. See also GB2496, GB2497, GB2498.

- Front caption: "Bob & Virgie Hayden." Bob and Virgie Hayden wearing ski equipment, posing on a snowy slope. In 1940, Robert Hayden was a student living at 2614 Cornwall Avenue. In 1945, he was in the U. S. Navy and he and Virginia were living at 716 14th Street. In 1947, he was President of Western Washington Aircraft, Inc. From 1948 through 1955 he was first a salesman at B. B. Grocery on State Street,and then he became owner or manager of the store. In 1956, he established Hayden's Thriftway at the corner of 12th and Larrabee and, in 1969, he open Quick-E Foodmart on 13th between Mill and Harris. Mrs. Hayden was a successful business woman as well, and in 1980, Virginia became an officer in Cost Cutter Stores, Inc/Hayden's Phase II. The Haydens owned and operated their stores until retirement in 1988.

- Archie Shiels was born in 1878 in Edinburgh, Scotland. After being educated int he U.K. he moved to Vancouver, B.C. and then to Alaska during the gold rush where he worked in railroad construction and gained a great knowledge of Alaska that was an asset when he worked for Pacific American Fisheries. At P.A.F. he was managing director and eventually became president in 1932, then chairman of the board in 1936. He authored four books. He died in 1974.
