The photograph was probably taken from Larrabee or Donovan Street looking toward South Hill. The foreground is barren. The only trees visible are in the background beyond the buildings, currently called Happy Valley.

- A man, wearing a bowler hat, suit and lap blanket, is sitting in an open carriage, drawn by a single horse. They are posed by a lake. In the background are logged-off hills. Back caption: "T. W. Gillette, at Lake Padden." In 1905, T. W. Gillette was President and General Manager of Fairhaven City Water and Power Company until his sudden death, at age 72, on April 10, 1921. He lived at 1614 Larrabee Avenue with his wife and Frederick K. Gillette. Frederick served until 1922 as Secretary of the company.

- Back caption: "The other gentleman in the door, the tolerable long neck is Jenkins. The other moses is a half witted customer." "Chip Groom, G. A. McIntosh, Frazer Jenkins, Paper boy?" Four men are posed in the doorway of the G. A. McIntosh hardware store located at 1708 11th Street, Fairhaven. The hatless man, George A. McIntosh, was the owner of this hardware store from 1900 through 1904. In 1905 he was at 1208 11th Street and in 1906 he was no longer in Bellingham. On the left is Burt W. 'Chip' Groom who worked next door at the Adams & Co. Hardware Store. Frazer Jenkins, second from the right, was manager of Bellingham Livery and Transfer, Co., in 1910. Numerous boxes are stacked on the sidewalk in front of the store. Some are labeled "Stearns Bicycles." Rakes and pitchforks lean against the storefront windows. Signs painted on the windows read: "Stoves & Ranges" and "Hardware & Cutlery."

- The photograph was taken from The Exchange Building (presently the YMCA) at the corner of Holly and Elk (State) Streets. A parade is passing on State Street. A sign in the corner window of the Sunset Block reads, "Doctor TEEL." Dr. Teel's office was in this building until 1906 at which time he moved to the Clover Building. An advertising for "PEARLINE Easy Washing" soap powder has been stuck to a utility pole in the foreground.See also GB1475.

In 1900, Thomas W. Miller was part of John H. Miller & Sons, manufacturers of Brick at the corner of Potter and King Streets. Dobbs had a portrait gallery at 1649 Holly Street.
