These are my two little brothers who were terrified of me for the first week of my stay. One of my friends captured this photo, the first moment they held my hands and let their guard down around me.

Paragliding - Santa Felix, Colombia
-
Date
-
2014
-
Description
-
Two weeks into my international internship, I had the opportunity to visit a small mountain village known as Santa Felix and tried paragliding for the first time. In a way, I liken paragliding to the study/intern abroad experience as a whole. The prospect of doing it is intimidating, perhaps even a little frightening. Yet once you take the plunge, you’ll find yourself floating blissfully through the sky, having the time of your life, and seeing the world from a perspective that you never would have been able to if you hadn't taken a chance.

This photo I really liked, even though it wasn't exactly a selfie, because it captures how happy I was to finally be in France. It was the first weekend in the program and I was still trying to get to know people but it really felt like I had bonded with my new friends that weekend and it was where I knew I was going to have a great time here by myself. I liked the background of it as well because you can see the giant beautiful Chateau in the background as well as the gold figures in the fountain. It really captures how incredible that place is.

Cueva y Colores - Spain
-
Date
-

Description
-
This panoramic action shot was taken during one of my first nights in my home for five months, Granada. The southern region of Spain, known as Andalucia, was the birthplace of flamenco. In the hills of the oldest part of the city of Granada, rest the Salamanca Caves that are currently occupied by the gypsy minority. At night the caves are open to locals and tourists alike to come drink, eat, and watch incredible performances that blends music, dancing, singing with the history and passion of the artists.

Description

Tanabata is a summer festival that dates back to the 8th century. There were taiko drummers, dancers, and street vendors. It was so cool to be able to participate in such a historic and iconic tradition. I also got to chat with some really nice locals.

Morning in Jemaa el-Fna: Morocco
-
Date
-
2019-02-16
-
Description
-
Jemaa el-Fna is known as the "busiest square in Africa," surrounded by a maze of souks, filled with snake charmers, merchants hawking wares, tourists, locals, motorcycles and movement. In the morning however, the still square was empty and this fruit vendor was setting up his stall as the morning call to prayer rung out of speakers all around the Red City of Marrakesh. A small moment of daily life isolated from the usual hustle and bustle of the city.

Handmade Pizza
-
Date
-
2019-11-16
-
Description
-
This photo was taken when we were in Florence taking a cooking class with our entire group program. It was great to get to be fully immersed in the culture of pizza from scratch and putting it in the oven and enjoying it with our classmates. Along with this we also make pasta from scratch as well and ate that along with our own personalized pizza. This was a great way to see how Italians value their food.
