May festival of Bellingham school children at the Normal, May 29, 1919.. This photo may be from this event when nearly 3,500 Bellingham school children performed calisthetic drils, folk and maypole dances, marches, and group gymnastics. The three-hour program featured more than 20 numbers and was witnessed by 9,000 spectators. Program happened on campus in both 1919 and 1920 and then moved to Battersby Field. It was part of the Bellingham Tulip Festival.. Whatcom Museum featured a similar photo in the Centennial exhibit in 1999/2000.
