Home - The Azores, Portugal
-
Date
-
2019
-
Description
-
I knew that when I decided to study abroad in Portugal that a trip to the Azores would be obligatory, as my great-grandparents left these islands in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean nearly a century ago. I was hit hard by emotions as I stepped off the plane. I was where my ancestors had lived, where they had laughed, where they had loved. I was walking in the same fields they had played in and were buried in. A place that should have seemed unfamiliar was the opposite of that; I was home.

Description

Climbing Pico, Portugal's highest peak at over 7,700 feet, wasn't easy. What was easy was appreciating the boundless views provided from the summit. The azure waters of the Atlantic surrounded me, and I knew there would just never quite be another view like this.

Las Salinas Grandes, Argentina
-
Date
-
2019
-
Description
-
This photo was taken in Las Salinas Grandes in northern Argentina. I had the opportunity to travel with a group of international students, including the friends I made at my university (Universidad de Palermo), to this amazing place. Las Salinas Grandes is the perfect place to take pictures based on the illusion of perspective. It is also located 3,450 meters above sea level and do not be fooled by the short sleeves, it was 50 degrees outside!

Everything Happens for a Reason - Paris, France
-
Date
-
2019
-
Description
-
This photo was taken when we were on a boat tour along the river through Paris to sight see with my program. As we were passing under bridges and the brick walls along the river, I spotted this spray painted on a wall. "Everything happens for a reason" has always been a motto that I lived by and that was instilled in me from my dad. It's a phrase that reminds me there is something to learn from every situation and to be present in what is happening, right now. When we were on the boat tour and happened to pass this spray painted on a random wall, I was hit with a wave of emotion. Seeing this quote was a reminder to me that my experience abroad is pushing my comfort zone and pushing me further than I thought I could go for a reason. There is truly something new to learn everyday and growth comes from hard times. It was a reminder that I have this opportunity for a reason and to make the most of it.

Green City - Tokyo, Japan
-
Date
-
2019
-
Description
-
The Imperial Palace Garden in the middle of Tokyo. It really struck me how in such a huge, dense urban city as Tokyo could have these pockets of nature. It was really quiet and peaceful in the park, but you could still look up and see tall buildings in any direction. I really admired the respect for nature and allowing room for these green spaces.

Description
-
Inwangsan, a mountain area where you can hike alongside a portion of the 18.6 km long wall that was built to protect the city from invaders back in 1396. At the top, you can get a glimpse of the incredible views of the entire city and it's absolutely amazing. As hiking culture in Korea is very prominent, locals as well as tourists, can always appreciate the incredible landscape and scenery of such a historically and culturally rich city.

Phang Nga - Thailand

Description
-
This is Yai Jem, a Thai grandma who inspired me in many ways. Despite losing much of her and her husbands belongings in a tsunami in 2004, she was constantly making sure I was fed, OK, happy, whatever I needed she made sure I had three. I felt the love she had to share with those around her, she did this for everyone, she made sure everyone had their food before she helped herself.

Musica Sin Fronteras
-
Date
-
2019
-
Description
-
This picture was taken in Buenos Aires, Argentina, outside of Club de Musica. In it is me with my groupmates and professor of the course. While attending Universidad de Palermo I took an events planning course where we learned how to plan all types of different events and even got to put on our own at the end of the semester. My groupmates and I decided to put on a music festival in a small local bar called "Musica Sin Fronteras" and the money we raised by selling tickets was donated to "Voluntarios Sin Fronteras", an organization that provides local kids with sport and art related activities as well as school supplies where needed.

I love this photo for so many reasons. The way the cathedral looked in the sunlight, the fact that it was such a cloudless day in Veliko Tarnovo, and the fact that the jet streams in the sky in the background remind me of shooting stars. I couldn't be more grateful to be in such an incredible country like Bulgaria!
