Show more1899-08 WWU Board of Trustees meeting minutes for August 1899WWU Board of Trustees meeting minutes for August 1899 Volume 01 - Page 096 1899-08-11 (Special) Board met at school building at 4:45PM after carefully inspecting in a body of all the improvements being made in the building and investigating those under contemplation. The question of the lighting of the building was discussed and the clerk was instructed to see the gas and electric companies and ascertain from them the cost of their respective illuminations for the building also he was instructed to see about numbering the rooms and ascertain the cost. Board adjourned. Record Approved. L.H. Darwin, clerk. Jere Neterer, chairman. 1899-08-25 Regular meeting of the board called to order by the chairman in the school building at 3:30PM present Neterer Eden and Teck. Dr. D.E. Biggs appeared before the board and requested that Miss Hattie Thompson of Tacoma Wash be elected as librarian and stenographer of the school. On motion of Mr. Edens seconded by Mr. Teck she was elected as librarian and stenographer and her compensation was fixed at $30.00 per month. Her duties to commence Sept. 5th 1899. The chairman read the following proposition from the B.B. Gas Co. signed by its secretary and manager Mr. W.S. Wharton. To loan to the board all the necessary plain gas fixtures for lighting the school building to remain in the building so- WWU Board of Trustees meeting minutes for August 1899 Volume 01 - Page 097 1899-08-25 long as the gas company has exclusive control of the lighting privelige or until the board desires to change the fixtures when the same may be taken out of the building by the gas company. The board to pay for the labor necessary for placing the fixtures in the building. Also for the material necessary to connect the fixtures at a proper height from the ceiling. On motion of Mr. Edens seconded by Mr. Teck it was accepted. The question of the compensation to be allowed the (?) who are assisting the janitor was left to the discression of the chairman. Principal Mathes was ordered to make the necessary purchases of blackboard and supplies needed by him. The clerk was instructed to notify the B.B. Furniture Co. that the building was ready to receive the shades and furniture ordered from them. The board made a careful and minute examination of the heating and ventilating apparatus reported to them as being completed and ready for use in the building. The architect was instructed to examine it and make his report to the board on its final acceptance within the next week. Board adjourned. Record approved. L.H. Darwin, clerk.
