Mr. Yorkston absent. Election of officers on the Board of Control as follows: Miss Baker, Secretary; Miss Ingalls, treasurer for the Messenger; Mr. Yorkston, athletic treasurer. Discussion of possibility of school picnic. Moved that the president appoint a committee of one to see Dr. Nash and the President of the Senior class to determine whether or not the Seniors would be willing to combine in a picnic with the entire school. Amendment suggested that we would not wish to interfere with or upset the plans of the Senior class. Motion as above carried. Consideration of the suggestion left by the old board that the allotment of that position of the student activity fee which is for athletics be raised to 75 cents, and the Messenger allotment be lowered to 40 cents. Statement of cost of publication of messenger made by Mr. Selby in writing as follows: Estimate cost of publication per week. Printing $60.00 Salary 12.00 Postage and incidentals 3.00 Total $75.00 Est. no. of issues 44 Total cost for year $3300.00 Estimate attendance for school year of 1920-21 2400 students. Income from 45 cents $1080.00 40 cents 960.00 Difference $120.00 Cost for one year $3300.00 Income " " " 960.00 Bal. covered by advertising $2340.00 Advertising per week $53.18 Average " for past year 45.00 Increase over past year $360.00 Page 01_081 (volume 01 page 081) 1920-05-04 - Moved and carried that beginning in the fall 75 cents be allotted to athletics and 40 cents to the Messenger. Following bill allowed for eats on Marathon: M.J. O'Connor $9.95. Motion carried that in light of the fact that the Messenger is in debt and that Mr. Selby wishes to clear the Messenger of this debt, Mr. Selby be allowed to continue in this position for the summer term. Motion made and carried that any action as to the lowering of the salary of the manager of the Messenger be deferred until next meeting in order that we may all give the matter thorough consideration. Motion carried that the board bring to the faculty the request that the faculty set aside a day in the spring of each year for the school picnic, that day to come on a school day. Bill for bat allowed. Griggs Stationary and Printing Co. $1.75 Adjournment. Florence E. Baker, Sec'y. 1920-05-11 - Board of Control Meeting Meeting called to order by the president. Mr. Yorkston absent. Mr. Kolstad late. Report on school picnic by Miss Bond. Moved and carried that Mr. Kolstad be instructed to see Dr. Nash about time of learning and returning of boot Monday, and report before assembly tomorrow. Moved and carried that the matter of the salary of the business manager of the Messenger be laid on the table until the next meeting. Time of meeting changed from 12:30 Tuesday to 3:00 Friday. Report by Mr. Heckman concerning salary of business manager of the Messenger. Moved and carried that the manager's salary be changed to $40 and that he be given a concession of 25% on all ads above $175. Moved and carried that the president confer with Mrs. Mayhew as to the person recommended for editor of the Messenger and that the suggestion be made to her that she recommend just as many as she feels are capable, ranking them in the order of their capabilities. Moved and carried that the basketball girls be given their letters this year. Following bills allowed: S.P. Freeman $6.65 Klipson pictures. 1 cut Baseball team $5.65 1 photo " " 1.00 $6.65 Ferrier Magnusson Co. $2.75 For baseball letters Florence E. Baker Sec'y 1920-05-25 - Board of Control Meeting Meeting called to order by the president. Miss Day late. Moved and carried that Mr. Boucher be appointed business manager of the Messenger for the next year. Moved and carried that Miss Houston be appointed editor of the Messenger for the summer term. Moved and carried that the Board of Control go on record as favoring the play hour for the summer term, the day and time to Page 01_083 (volume 01 page 083) 1920-05-25 - be decided by the department of physical education.
