Description
-
Stamped on verso of image: Herald Staff Photo Bellingham, Wash. July 5, 1951. On verso of image: The boy on the stump was a passerby on the street who posed for the camera. Included with photos: The measurements for the old stump were 24' 6" in circumference. Mrs. Mathes said that her husband, Dr. E. T. Mathes, saved the stump as a reminder of the big trees that once covered the campus area. We learned that some of the girls' clubs cleared the area around the knoll of blackberry vines and other vines that naturally grew among the trees. The ivy was planted by the class of 1901. The information about the clubs clearing the area was furnished by Mrs. Ruswick. The ivy that was planted by the Class of 1901 was brought from Tacoma by Mrs. Dellinger, who is Mrs. Browne's mother.
