The Edge of Catastrophe - Poas Volcano, Costa Rica
-
Date

-
Description
-
Poas Volcano is one of Costa Rica's most active volcanoes. I have always been fascinated by the ecosystems surrounding volcanoes, so shortly into the semester I took the opportunity to visit. Poas had been closed for a couple of years due to volcanic activity. The national park was opened for about two months before it erupted once more, a week after I had visited. Seeing an active volcano made me realize the fragility and dependence of life on the environment.

The Waterfall at the End of a Tough Hike

Description
-
This moment was captured by a friend as I took the time after a emotionally and physically grueling hike. There is nothing better than taking a deep breath in front of roaring waters. Feeling the mist from the water on my face and staring in awe at the scenery was worth every second of the hike.
