Description

This was my absolute favorite part about my trip. During the boat trip on the last two days of our trip our whole group had the opportunity to snorkel with sea lions and a whale shark. It was incredible to be so close to such amazing creatures.

Gamcheon Culture Village - Gamcheon Village, South Korea

Description

After taking a small bus through the steep and narrow streets, the views of Gamcheon village are incredible as there are so many small locally owned businesses everywhere. What I found most impactful was the views at night because by nightfall nearly all of the crowds disappear; I thought it was even more beautiful at night with small street lights dimly lighting the now sleepy town overlooking the water.

Between the Breaths - Leeward Islands

Description

As a student here at Western I have found myself studying so hard to reach my goal, but abroad I was able to experience the goal I am after and seemingly rejuvenated my passions to find excitement in continuing on with the daily grind. As a SCUBA diver, it's hard to explain the emotions and thoughts you experience while underwater. Alongside the silence comes a quiet mind, or a place to let your thoughts drift off with ease. In this picture we are diving off if the coast lines of Statia, an island within the Leeward Islands, and ventured to an abandoned anchor. The anchor itself was immovable and forever stagnant, but the life around and atop the anchor encouraged you to take slower and deeper breaths, to stay down a little longer. Each dive brought to my attention how much I adore the lifestyle of diving, and how the path I am chugging along, is surely the right path.

On the Edge, Galway, Ireland

This is when I was sitting on the edge of Cliffs of Moher looking at the Atlantic Ocean and the Cliffs in front of me. The Cliffs of Moher had been on my bucket list for years and I got to fulfill my wish. It had been a long 4 hour bus ride to get to the Cliffs and we had only a limited amount of time to explore their beauty. But this specific moment, where I was sitting on the edge listening to the wind flow through the grass and the waves hit the rocks, made the early morning and the long drive worth it. Although a famous natural landmark, in this moment it felt personal, as if I was part of the cliffs for that split second. I could feel the grass under my hands, I felt the wind through my jacket and somehow I felt so free yet so insignificant at the same time. This moment is one I will cherish from my travels during study abroad, it was a moment of pure and utter peace.

In the Land of Giants - Norway
-
Date
-
2014
-
Description
-
The barren, rocky landscape of Jotunheimen (English: The Home of the Giants) is a stark contrast to Norway's many lush forests; a contrast intensified when you fall asleep on the bus, surrounded by tree-covered hills, and wake up to see only grass, rocks, shrubs, and rugged mountains, rising out of the earth like waking giants. It was like waking up on an entirely different world. As a part of the excursion, we hiked to the top of one of those mountains — Bitihorn. It is from there, exhausted and sore from the rough 2000 ft. ascent, that I captured this picture. Even though I was surrounded by many of my fellow international students, the extensive Norwegian landscape and immense sky made me feel incredibly small and insignificant until I realized that, as a member of the international community, I can break down mountains — mountains that still separate many countries of the world — through friendship, peace, and an open-mind.

Kalimera! - Ithaca, Greece

Description
-
A beautiful afternoon on the small waterfront of Kioni village on the island of Ithaca, Greece with one of the many resident boats. The people of Kioni are warm and welcoming, always greeting you with a "Kalimera!" and smiles. The awe-inspiring beauty in simplicity is found every where you go, and it is clear why Odysseus made his famous journey back to his island of Ithaca.

After coming to Korea, I have discovered a newfound love of Korean barley tea and I find myself drinking it almost every day. Busan was no exception and as I walked along the seaside trail of Haeundae beach, I briefly set down my drink to take in the beautiful scenery. Everything around me was so stunning and I was glad to have my little bottle of barley tea along with me.
