Since students first enrolled in the Fall of 1899 at what was then the State Normal School at New Whatcom, Western's student body has always published a newspaper. From the Normal Messenger to the Northwest Viking to the WWCollegian to the Western Front (and other title variants in between), the student paper has chronicled the social, athletic, academic, and creative life of the institution throughout its trajectory from teacher-training college to comprehensive regional university. This collection is made possible by the generous support of Don Hacherl and Cindy Hacherl (class of 1984) and Bert Halprin (class of 1971). The Western Washington University Student Newspaper database and digital collection is an initiative of Western Washington University Libraries Special Collections.
